Letter: Protect #wolves in Minnesota

Wolves were recently returned to the federal Endangered Species List in Minnesota. Obviously, according to the courts, wolves need federal protection because some of the states are not doing their job protecting wolves.
It is discouraging and frustrating to hear that some members of Congress, pushed by special interests, want to remove the federal protections. This erodes the mission of the Endangered Species Act because state plans all rushed to a reckless, recreational wolf hunt without consideration of other options. These options include support for funding of nonlethal methods to prevent wolf-livestock conflicts, which appears to be of particular concern in our part of the state.

Our wolves, like other endangered and threatened species deserve our protection. Let’s keep politics out of wildlife survival.
