MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin wildlife officials are asking trappers who accidentally capture wolves to participate in the agency's wolf collaring an monitoring program.

Department of Natural Resources officials say trappers who discover a wolf in their trap should contact the agency, which will determine if the wolf is a good candidate for the monitoring program.

DNR Large Carnivore Specialist David MacFarland says the trappers can help improve the agency's wolf population data if they let agency officials collar the animals before releasing them.
